Needle art tradition showcased in Snow Hill museum exhibit

(Sept. 3, 2010) The Julia A. Purnell Museum in Snow Hill this week opened its annual Delmarva Needle Art Show and Competition. The exhibit, which features needle art created by regional artists, reflects the museum’s namesake who is well known for her embroidered crewelwork pieces depicting local scenes.

A variety of techniques, including embroidery, quilting, crochet and knitting, are represented in the exhibit. The yearly event presents an opportunity for regional artists to display their work, and it enriches the museum experience for visitors by offering the chance to see the works of so many different artists in one location.

The competition will be judged by viewers’ choice. Ribbons will be awarded Oct. 27.

The Delmarva Needle Art Show and Competition will be on display at the Julia A. Purnell Museum through Oct. 30, during regular museum hours of 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday, and 1-4 p.m. on Sunday.

This exhibit is included in the regular museum admission of $2 for adults and 50 cents for children. For more information, contact the Julia A. Purnell Museum at 410-632-0515.
