OC to replace 911 call recorders after a unit catches fire

Ladies sign scrolls that will be sent to soldiers serving abroad, as well as the soldiers injured in the Foot Hood shooting last week, while others line up to pack care packages to be sent to local troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. Nine new police cars on the way to Ocean City
(Nov. 13, 2009) Ocean City will piggyback on a state contract to purchase nine new police cars at a discounted price. The city budgeted money to buy six new marked police cruisers and three unmarked cars. The state recently awarded its contract to Hertrich Fleet Services in Milford, Del., and Ocean City decided to piggyback on that contract to save money. Full Story

NUISANCE LOTS
The Worcester County Commissioners declared several lots, including the one shown, in Pennington Commons along Route 589 as public nuisances on Nov. 3 because of the overgrown grass and other vegetation. The owners had up to 10 days from receipt of notice to clean the properties or the county would clean it and send a bill. The lots are owned by New England Developers, Inc. Full Story
Deer Run campground gets site plan approval
(Nov. 13, 2009) After a few years of planning, the Deer Run membership campground obtained site plan approval last Thursday from the Worcester County Planning Commission. The campground, adjacent to Deer Run Golf Course, will have 269 lots separated by green areas. Full Story

Berlin tweaks its program to provide energy assistance
(Nov. 13, 2009) The town of Berlin has fine-tuned its energy audit and assistance program for people who invest in energy saving measures for their homes. Advertising to continue to run on Boardwalk trams into 2012
Project generated more than $32,000 in revenue for participants in 2009
(Nov. 13, 2009) Visitors who hop on the Boardwalk tram for a ride will continue to see advertisements on the tram's video screens for another three years. In March, the Ocean City Council inked a deal with Comcast Spotlight to produce and air short commercials to be shown on the Boardwalk trams as a way to raise new revenues during the economic slump. High water covering Philadelphia Avenue is not enough to stop motorists from driving through it Thursday morning on their way to the inlet to see big waves whipped up by the remnants of Tropical Storm Ida. (Nov. 13, 2009) Thirty years ago, Lee McDougald was rear-ended in a car accident. He suffered internal injuries, a broken back and had a severe concussion. Only after many weeks of rehabilitation was he able to walk again. His health worsened in the 1980s when he developed Parkinson disease, more than likely caused by the head trauma. Full Story
