Drug suspect arrested

D. Handy D. Handy Ocean City police arrested an alleged drug dealer and his accomplice Nov. 4, following a two-month investigation.

Deshawn Cornelius Handy, 26, of Selbyville, Del., was charged with two counts of distribution of crack cocaine and possession of crack cocaine and one count of distribution of a non-controlled substance. Benny Marion Mullins Jr., 31, of Selbyville, Del., was charged with conspiracy to distribute crack cocaine.

During the investigation, an undercover police officer allegedly purchased suspected crack cocaine from Handy on two occasions. A search warrant was then obtained for Handy.

Handy was held at the Worcester County Jail on a $10,000 bond and Mullins was released after posting a $5,000 bond.

Theft

Ocean Pines police arrested a 19-yearold man Oct. 27 for jewelry theft in early October.

Police said Brandon Krieger of Ocean Pines was charged with theft after he allegedly stole jewelry from an Ocean Pines home between Oct. 2-6. The jewelry was valued at approximately $2,500.

Benny Mullins Benny Mullins Nearly all the missing jewelry was recovered from a Salisbury pawn shop, according to the police report.

Drug conviction

The first case prosecuted as a result of State's Attorney Joel Todd's anti-drug "Take Pride in Berlin" program has resulted in a 25-year prison sentence without the possibility of parole.

Graylin Spence, 42, of Berlin, was arrested as part of an undercover drug operation in that began April. An undercover officer purchased cocaine from Spence, who was arrested in June.

On Nov. 4, Judge Theodore Eschenburg found Spence guilty of possession and distribution of cocaine in Worcester County Circuit Court and sentenced him to 25 years with no chance of parole.

Two arrested

Two Delaware women were arrested by Ocean City police Nov. 5 after one allegedly sold drugs to an undercover officer.

Shanice Eriz Chandler, 24, of Frankford, Del., was charged with distribution of crack cocaine, possession of crack cocaine and possession of marijuana. Sheronda Renee Jennings, 38, of Frankford, Del., was charged with conspiracy to distribute crack cocaine and possession of marijuana.

S. Chandler S. Chandler Police stopped the pair's car after Chandler allegedly sold the drugs to an undercover officer. Police said Jennings's 2- year-old child was in the car at the time.

The child was turned over to a family member, according to the police report, and police will discuss the incident with social services.

Chandler was released after posting a $10,000 bond and Jennings was released after posting a $5,000 bond.

Indecent exposure

A 44-year-old Ocean City man was arrested Nov. 6 and charged with exposing himself to a teenaged girl the previous day, resort police reported.

William Glenn Stauffer was charged with indecent exposure.

The father of the 14- year-old victim reported the incident to police Nov. 5. The girl gave police a description of the suspect and police used that to obtain a warrant for Stauffer, who was arrested the following day.

He was held a the Worcester County Jail on a $5,000 bond.

S. Jennings S. Jennings False report

Inconsistencies between an alleged victim's story and the evidence found in a reported assault case led Ocean City police to charge the woman who reported the crime with making a false report last week.

Alexis Marie Turcol, 18, of Pittsville, was charged after police investigated a report of a woman being attacked by a man with a knife Aug. 26.

Turcol told police she had been babysitting in the area of Old Landing Road and was attacked by a knife-wielding man as she went to her car at approximately 9:30 p.m.

Turcol said the man forced her into a nearby marsh where he assaulted her with the knife. She said she was able to fight the man off and he ran away toward the bay.

Police began an intense search of the area that included detectives, K-9 units and the forensics division. Police were unable to locate any evidence of the alleged attacker, according to the police report, and investigators noted a lack of physical evidence at the scene.

The lack of evidence, along with inconsistencies in Turcol's story, led police to question the initial report. The investigation continued, the little evidence collected continued to be processed and Turcol continued to be questioned by police until she allegedly admitted the attack did not happen, according to police.

Assault

Christopher Lee Stant, 18, of Ocean City police was charged with seconddegree assault after he allegedly pushed a police officer on Nov. 5. Police went to a home on Lighthouse Avenue to investigate domestic disturbance and found Stant and his mother arguing.

According to the police report, Stant was bleeding and the officers saw knives and razors in the home, so they asked Stant to come outside. As he did, he allegedly grabbed one officer's arms and tried to push him away.
