So much going on this winter, easy to lose track
Holiday luncheons, free bingo among activities

Resort residents gather at the St. Andrew Parish Center on 145th Street in Ocean City for a luau on Oct. 6. (Nov. 13, 2009) What goes around comes around. Ya' just knew it was gonna' happen. Streetcars are being rejuvenated and put back on track all over
the country. On any given day I forget where I left my pocketbook or glasses, and at times my luv, but the memories of happenings of the golden days, via streetcars, are forever. Seems like only yesterday, that early dismissal on a cold,
snowy day at a streetcar transfer point. My classmates were huddled together seeking shelter under the canopy at the entrance of a tavern with a less than reputable reputation. For sure, the owner has never forgotten the mid-afternoon the double doors imploded under the pressure and a mass of Catholic high school students in full uniform ended up sprawled all over his establishment. Trust me, it was not a pretty sight. Thank the Lord there was no YouTube. Mother Punishment, the one with the eyes in back of her head, would have never let us forget that episode.
Irish Kemp So many places to go and things to do around our town, I forgot to mention the absolutely free senior bingo every Tuesday at McDonald's on 123rd Street and Coastal Highway, 9-11 a.m. You'll meet a lot of nice folks. Be sure to thank McDonald's for its hospitality and generosity. Nothin' like McAdee's hot fudge sundaes, albeit winter or summer. I buy 'em in bulk. Delmarvians are fortunate to have so many generous entrepreneurs that are willing to cut into their own profits to help raise money for bodaciously humongous amount of fundraisers for worthy causes around our town. Many thanks to the folks who have helped me from time to time.
Many, many happy returns to November birthday kids, Betty Ertel, George Feehley, Reba Felty, Jenny Sweeney, Stan Symkla, Mary Pat O'Leary and Brian Norton. Sailing those bliss and, at times blitzful, seas of matrimony into the golden years ain't easy. Congratulations to Roland and Doris Murray (54), Dan and Mary McLaughlin and my frequent flyers Phil and Dolores Guarino celebrating 55 years of wedlock. Phil tells me the secret of a happy marriage is to keep in mind what champion Rocky Marciano told him when he was courtin' Dolores: "Keep movin', be light of foot and always remember to say 'I love you,' if you think you're losing a battle."
Joanne Kirby and Betty Ertel present a $500 donation from the Ladies Auxiliary of Hibernians to Darlene Onley of Worcester County G.O.L.D. C'mon Phil, do you think I was born yesterday? That heat of the battle bit is way out. H'mm! It does explain all that hugging and clinging. The rules apply, also, to the folks with less "sea-farin' time," the likes of Joe and Joann Ratajczak, George and Joan Saur and Paul and Doris Gross. Have, fun kids, surprise him. Take the turkey out to dinner for the anniversary.
U R what U eat. H'mmm! Why are the publications carrying full-page ads of mysterious simple ingredients found around every house that will supposedly cure just about anything and everything? Guaranteed to keep one germ- and disease free. What's the secret they're keeping? One ad claimed that one teaspoon a day of a certain liquid would guarantee life everlasting. I figure that had to be some mighty potent holy water. The song says, "In heaven there is no beer," but just between you and I, or is that me, I figure there'll be vats and vats of bodygood red wine there. Of course it depends on your final destination. Maybe I'll luck out and hell will freeze over.
Coming up, the AARP Christmas luncheon on Tuesday, Dec. 15; the Irish- American sing-along at the Dunes with Shirley Toms on Thursday, Nov. 17; DIAC's Christmas party at BJ's on Dec. 3; the Knights' Christmas party on Dec. 9; and the tree lighting at Northside Park to kick off the Winterfest festivities. Mark your calendar and invite the extended family and friends to c'mon down and join in the fun. Make some kid happy, drop a box of sugar-coated cereal for the food drive off at St. Lukes or St. Andrews, by Sunday, Nov. 15. C U in OC.
