Tight squeeze…
With just inches to spare, this barge squeezed through the Route 50 drawbridge Wednesday around 2:40 p.m. while carrying a crane north to work on the repairs to the Route 90 bridge. The drawbridge was up for approximately 20 minutes while the barge and crane passed through, causing some traffic backups because the alternative route of Route 90 is closed to all traffic for the repairs. There were just 3 inches of clearance between the barge and each side of the bridge, but it squeezed through without a hitch. Full Story
Sprinkler system saves Boardwalk store from blaze
(Oct. 23, 2009) The quick response of volunteer firefighters and a working sprinkler system helped keep a fire in a Boardwalk store from spreading to adjacent buildings Monday afternoon. A fire broke out at about 3:20 p.m. in Goin' Wild, a store at South First Street that sells jungle-themed children's items. Full Story
