Assault
Leroy Poole Ocean City police arrested a Berlin man Aug. 29, for assaulting two Boardwalk storeowners who asked him to leave the premises.
Leroy Poole, 44, was charged with two counts of second-degree assault and one count each of disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and possession of salvia.
A passer-by told an officer on patrol there was a fight in the store at Caroline Street, and the officer found Poole fighting with a male employee, according to the police report. Poole allegedly fought against the police officers that tried to arrest him, and two sets of handcuffs and a leg restraint were needed to get him under control. Police said Poole was in possession of salvia.
Pedestrian struck
A woman was struck by a car while crossing Coastal Highway at 48th Street on Aug. 30, according to the Ocean City Police Department.
At around 3:30 a.m., police said, a 28- year-old woman was crossing the highway unlawfully when she was struck by a car traveling north that had a green light.
The woman was taken to Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury and was expected to be released the following day. Police said alcohol was believed to be a factor on the part of the victim.
R. Camacho Jr. Foot chase
Deputies with the Worcester County Sheriff's Office arrested a 26-year-old New Jersey man on Aug. 29, after he ran away from an officer. Clayton Childs of Highland Park, N.J. was charged with driving while intoxicated and failure to obey a police officer.
Childs's vehicle was reportedly parked on the shoulder of Route 113 at Ironshire Road south of Berlin at 2:40 a.m. when a deputy pulled over to investigate. Childs was urinating outside the vehicle, police said, and he ran away when the officer approached.
Childs was apprehended after a brief chase.
Deadly weapon
Ocean Pines police charged a 19-yearold man with drug and weapon charges on Aug. 20 following a traffic stop.
Skylar James Snead of Ocean Pines was charged with possession of a concealed deadly weapon and possession of marijuana. Police said they also found a switchblade knife and suspected drugs in Snead's possession.
Teen charged with DWI
Berlin police charged a 16-year-old girl with drunken driving on Aug. 25, and took her home to "a very upset mother."
The Berlin resident was charged with driving under the influence, driving while intoxicated and violating license restrictions.
Police reported seeing the teen driving erratically and crossing lane markings on Old Ocean City Boulevard at Barrett Road shortly after midnight. Officers stopped the vehicle and issued field sobriety tests. According to the police report, the teen failed the tests and registered a breath alcohol content of 0.14, above the legal limit in Maryland of 0.08.
A 16-year-old passenger also received a citation for underage possession of alcohol.
Resisting arrest
Ocean City police charged a 20-year-old man with resisting arrest Aug. 30, after he was allegedly seen drinking on the Boardwalk.
Samuel Louis Wyland of Manor, Pa., was charged with public consumption, resisting arrest and drug possession.
A police office reportedly saw Wyland drink an alcoholic beverage while walking on the Boardwalk, a violation of the city ordinance. Wyland fought against the officer when he went to place him under arrest, according to the police report.
During the struggle, a prescription Fentanyl pill, a painkiller, allegedly fell out of Wyland's possession and to the ground.
Scooter hit and run
Ocean City police arrested a New Jersey man Aug. 30, for stealing and destroying a scooter, and then fleeing the scene.
Ricaldo Camacho Jr., 24, of South River, N.J., was charged with theft over $500, malicious destruction of property over $500, theft under $100 and driving under the influence.
According to the police report, Camacho and two other men left a midtown restaurant without paying a $50 check started in Camacho's name, then took a motor scooter that belonged to the restaurant's manager and loaded it into Camacho's SUV. Witnesses at another location said they saw the men remove the scooter from the SUV and then drive over the vehicle multiple times before driving away.
Police reportedly found Camacho behind the wheel of his SUV nearby and believed him to be intoxicated.
Assault, trespass
Ocean City police arrested a 23-year-old man Aug. 30, after he refused to leave the property of a resort nightclub and then assaulted a police officer that got involved.
Zachary Adam Hirsh of Gaithersburg, Md., was charged with four counts of second degree assault and one count each of trespassing, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, malicious destruction of property under $500 and threat of arson.
Police found Hirsh lying in the parking lot of the midtown establishment. Security employees asked him to leave the property, as did the officer. According to a police report, Hirsh eventually left for a short time, but then returned.
When the officer tried to handcuff Hirsh, he allegedly struggled, kicked the officer and spit on him. A security employee told police he had also been assaulted by Hirsh.
