Boats can still leave earlier for offshore

(July 31, 2009) Although the cost of fuel is not as big an issue for White Marlin Open participants this year, boats may still leave their docks early to save some of that cost. Leaving early gives the boats more time to reach their fishing destinations, thus they may proceed more slowly and save fuel cost. Full Story
Many flounder but few keepers being boated
FISHING REPORT
(July 31, 2009) Fishing last week saw lots of flounder in the bay. Lots of "shorts." You have to work hard to catch keepers but they are there. The bay also saw some croaker, Norfolk spot and striper action. Surf fishing gave up the usual sharks and skates, big rays, Norfolk spot and a number of croaker after dark. Full Story

Tourney to honor late angler attracts 19 boats, awards $57k
(July 31, 2009) The inaugural Branch Kreppel Memorial Blue Marlin Tournament exceeded goals and expectations with 19 boats and $57,200 awarded to the winners. Sunset Marina hosted the July 24-26 tournament to honor the late Glen Robert "Branch" Kreppel, a commercial diver and owner of Diver Services Company, who died at the age of 44 on Nov. 28, 2008. (July 31, 2009) The needy on the Eastern Shore will have the chance to supplement their diets with white and blue marlin donated by anglers in the White Marlin Open next week. Every year, some anglers in the fishing tournament donate their white and blue marlin catches to help feed the area's needy population. Full Story
