(July 31, 2009) Thousands of spectators are expected to attend the weigh-ins of the 36th annual White Marlin Open next week, as well as watch the fleet of boats leave the inlet each day to head out fishing. KIWANIS KNOWS ABOUT PORK
Susanne Zilberfarb, president of Hammond Media, Inc., recently discussed with members of the Kiwanis Club of Greater Ocean Pines-Ocean City the big changes in the pork industry during the last 50 years that helped to make pork the United States' largest meat export. The July 22 presentation comes just weeks before the club's Carolina Pork Barbecue fundraiser, scheduled for Aug. 8, 1-5 p.m., at White Horse Park. HOME AWAY FROM HOME?
An Arrowshaped Spider, an orbweaver in the genus Micrathena, is one of the most colorful and easily recognized spiders in Florida. This one, however, has made its home at an Ocean Pines residence. Orbweavers are generally harmless, but they can be a nuisance when they build large webs in places such as doorways. Despite their formidable appearance, orbweaver spiders are not considered dangerous. Their coloring and sharp spines discourage birds from eating them. Full Story
