(July 17, 2009) The public will have an opportunity to assist Baltimore National Aquarium representatives today (Friday) during the 12th annual dolphin count in Maryland. Residents and visitors are invited to help measure the Atlantic bottlenose dolphin population by counting them as they appear along the 26- mile shoreline during a threehour period. Full Story

Motorized rescue units help beach patrol keep visitors safe

Two contests down, one to go at resort skate park
(July 17, 2009) The Ocean City Recreation and Parks Department kicked off its annual skate competitions last month at the Ocean Bowl Skate Park on Third Street and St. Louis Avenue. Prizes were donated by local skate shops and awarded to the top three skaters in each age division during the first contest of the summer, held June 23. Twenty-nine skaters competed. Full Story

OPTIMIST ORATORICAL COMPETITION TRADITION
Each year since they were in fifth grade, this group of rising eighth-graders from Worcester Prep has entered the Optimist Oratorical competition, during which they prepare four- to five-minute speeches as a way to practice public speaking skills. They are, front row from left, Claire Dorey, Emma Richardson, Hannah Esham, Daniel Rosa and Razaak Eniola; and back row, Jamie Welch, Nick Poist and Lorenzo deJesus. "These students have developed a beautiful camaraderie through which they work together to make each individual speech and speaker the best possible," said Dr. Merle Marsh, director of Special Projects at the school. "The skills they have mastered and continue to perfect will be of great use to them throughout their school years and in their careers as well." Full Story
New museum exhibit showcases OC Boardwalk through the ages
(July 17, 2009) The long-awaited exhibit featuring Ocean City's Boardwalk has opened at the Ocean City Life-Saving Station Museum after more than three years of organizing. Displays in the new exhibit include photos of nostalgic Boardwalk scenes, souvenirs, game prizes and the iconic photo booth where visitors could get four photos taken for 25 cents. Full Story
