The Freeman Stage at Bayside to presents "Ain't Misbehavin'"

Boardwalk museum offering free programs six days a week

The highest honor a Lion may receive is to be named a Melvin Jones Fellow by the Lions Club International Foundation. Humanitarian qualities such as generosity, compassion and concern for the less fortunate are requirements for the recipients of the award. The fellowship was started in 1973 and named for Melvin Jones, founder of Lions Club International. Jack Shook was also named a Melvin Jones Fellow on Saturday. Full Story

Owner Jeff Edwards said he was sitting with friends one evening discussing old college stories when the talk turned to places where patrons could sign dollar bills and hang them on the walls. New top officers announced during Caine Woods gathering
(July 3, 2009) Caine Woods Community Association elected new officers at the annual business meeting and picnic June 20. Lloyd Martin will become president Oct. 1 by succeeding Bob LeMay, who completed the maximum three oneyear terms. Mark Jednorski will succeed Martin as vice president. Martin had completed the maximum three one-year terms in that office. Full Story
GOOSE CROSSING
It's a common sight to see geese walking across a busy street, especially in the Ocean Pines area, where the waterfowl tend to mill around at the ponds at the North and South gates. Above, a group of geese holds up traffic as it crosses Route 589 and heads toward the Pennington Commons shopping center in Ocean Pines last Thursday evening. The respectful drivers stopped and waited for the animals to get to the other side. Full Story

The Ocean City Beautification Committee is looking for places of beauty so members can reward the diligent work of citizens. Seventeen ready, more expected for bayside bar's eating contest
(July 3, 2009) Throughout May and June, Fish Tales Bar & Grill in Ocean City embarked on a quest to find the 20 fastest hot dog eaters in the area. Those quickest downers of hot dogs have advanced to the finals of the 22nd Street bayside bar & grill's second annual Fourth of July hot dog eating contest, which will take place Saturday at 2 p.m. Full Story

Maryland's first lady serves up recipe for healthy eating habits
(July 3, 2009) To a resounding chorus of "Yuck!" Maryland's First Lady Katie O'Malley announced that her favorite vegetable is spinach. While most of the 87 students in the summer school academy at Buckingham Elementary School in Berlin wrinkled their noses at the thought of eating spinach, there were a few who shared the first lady's taste in vegetables. 'BALLS OF FURY' WINS TITLE
The "Balls of Fury" team outplayed its final competitor Monday to take top honors in Ocean Pines Recreation and Parks Department's first-ever Coed Adult Kickball League. A fall league will start in the beginning of September. Full Story
Mood Swingers to perform free concert at Pines park on Thurs.
(July 3, 2009) The Ocean Pines Recreation and Parks Department continues its free concerts next week with a July 9 performance by the Mood Swingers. Public emergency response training scheduled for Sept.

(July 3, 2009) This past week was a very busy one for the Ocean City Beach Patrol and the surf rescue technicians who guard your beach. Due to increased wave action, we have seen a rise in rip current-related rescues and impact injuries. These impact injuries are caused when a swimmer or wader is thrown against the ocean bottom or beach by a powerful wave. Full Story

HAPPY 60TH ANNIVERSARY!
Calvin and Ann Ginnavan of Ocean City celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary at the Lighthouse Sound Restaurant on June 21. The celebration was organized by their children, Calvin and Carol Ginnavan Jr. and Gail and Tommy Fowler. They were also joined by their grandchildren, Erin Ashley, Bryan and Amy Ginnavan and Kevin Ginnavan, and two great-grandchildren, Logan and Chase Ginnavan. The Ginnavans are retired from the Cabana Motel, but continue to operate their Homestead and Stonehaven Apartments. Full Story

Dee Rigsby, president of the Ocean City Marlin Club Ladies Auxiliary, left, and Evelyn Angel, chairwoman of the club's scholarship committee, present $4,000 scholarships to Anthony Whaley of Berlin, who is working toward a degree in teaching from Salisbury University, and Lindsay Chetelat of Bishopville, who will study nutrition this fall at the University of Delaware. The Department of Human Resources' Maryland Commission for Women last month presented six young women with the Women of Tomorrow Award. The annual recognition honors young women who have made noteworthy contributions to their communities, and who unquestionably will assume leadership positions in their chosen fields.
