Search for season's first marlin pays off near Poorman's Canyon
(June 19, 2009) Capt. Terry Layton set out on his 34-foot boat, the Nontypical, with Jim Hughes on June 10 looking to catch the first white marlin of the season. They found it. The two, who often fish together, left the dock from Layton's Ocean City home bright and early at 5 a.m., and headed to an area where they knew there was warm water, about 84 miles from the beach. Contests planned at Ocean Bowl The Ocean City Recreation and Parks Department is holding its annual skate competitions this summer at the Ocean Bowl Skate Park on Third Street and St. Louis Avenue. There will be three competitions throughout the summer: June 23, July 7 and Aug. 11. Full Story

Marlin Club fishing tournament true family affair

Fifty-four boats entered in 29th annual OC Shark Tournament
Warmer water temps bring improved fishing for offshore sharkers
(June 19, 2009) Today (Friday) is the second of three fishing days for anglers competing in the 29th annual Ocean City Shark Tournament. Fifty-four boats have entered into this year's event so far. Five fought the rain and went out fishing Thursday. The registration fee is $650 per team for up to three anglers for those interested in fishing today and Saturday. Full Story
Fishing competition nears full stride with tuna tourney
Next week's event will also feature added-entry levels for heaviest tuna boated
(June 19, 2009) For anglers who enjoy tuna fishing, the Maryland Saltwater Sportfishermen's Association's 20th annual Tuna-Ment Tournament will be the place to be on June 26-28. Registration will take place at Sunset Marina in West Ocean City on Thursday, June 25, from 6-8 p.m. The cost is $250 per boat. Full Story
