In a new program, the town will provide funds to help citizens implement recommendations after having an energy audit of their residences. Downtown, residential sidewalk project under way
BERLIN
(May 1, 2009) Long-awaited sidewalk improvements in Berlin will make it safer for pedestrians. "There will be many folks happy to see that one," Mayor Gee Williams said of the project during Monday's Town Council meeting. City claims police officer with medical condition quit

Greene Turtle to lease city lot for parking
(May 1, 2009) Steve Pappas hopes to make the intersection outside of his Greene Turtle Restaurant on Jamestown Road a little safer by getting delivery trucks off the street. To do that, he wanted to purchase a vacant piece of city-owned property owned behind the pumping station on the southeast corner and use it as a loading zone for trucks and employee parking. Town changes water meter policy to be business friendly

(May 1, 2009) Berlin officials changed a long-standing policy Monday about the number of water meters a building will be required to have. In years past, multi-unit buildings were required to have one water meter for each unit. The Town Council voted to change that and now require only one water meter for a building. Full Story

Part-time resort resident dies after surf rescue in Fla.
(May 1, 2009) Charles Schulze, a parttime resident of Ocean City since the World War II era, died Saturday of a heart attack after rescuing two brothers, ages 9 and 12, from riptides in Pompano Beach, Fla. Schulze, 73, who also maintained second homes in Florida, was walking on the beach when he saw the boys struggling in a riptide, the Palm Beach Post reported. Full Story

Rain barrels offered at reduced cost
