Reserve officer of year
Charles Judd of the Ocean City Police Department's reserve officer program was named Reserve Officer of the Year earlier
this month. Judd has been a member of the reserve officer program since 1999, volunteering more than 1,870 hours during those years. He has worked at numerous parades and festivals, traffic control, the Baltimore Avenue pedestrian
detail and supports the RAAM (Reduce the Availability of Alcohol to Minors) project.
Since its inception in 1999, the reserve officer program has enabled the OCPD to have greater interaction with the community and gives the department the ability to keep police officers patrolling the streets, while tasking the reserve officers with duties that are civilian or administrative in nature. Overall, the reserve officer program has had a cost savings since of more than $1 million.
