(May 1, 2009) Two men were charged with serious crimes including possessing a stolen gun and fleeing from police following an April 26 high-speed chase that began in Worcester County and ended in Wicomico County.
Terrance Terone White Jr., 18, of Salisbury, and Antoine Mandrew Sturgis, 25, of Laurel, Del., were arrested by state police following the pursuit that occurred around 6 a.m.
According to the police report, a state trooper in Worcester County stopped White's and Sturgis's vehicle on Route 50 near Old Ocean City Boulevard for speeding. The men then pulled away and the high-speed chase began.
The trooper pursued the vehicle at speeds between 105 and 110 miles per hour west from the location of the traffic stop and into Wicomico County. A Wicomico County Sheriff's deputy put stop sticks on the road at Route 50 and the Route 13 bypass that deflated the tires of the vehicle.
At that time, the men pulled onto the shoulder of the road and got out of the vehicle while it was still moving, according to police. White and Sturgis tried to run from the scene, but both were apprehended.
Police said there was an outstanding arrest warrant for Sturgis for failing to register as a sex offender in Delaware, and White also had an arrest warrant from Wicomico County Circuit Court.
When searching the vehicle, police found a shotgun loaded with buckshot that had been reported stolen during a burglary the previous night, the report said.
White and Sturgis were both charged with possession of a concealed deadly weapon, resisting arrest, failing to comply with a lawful police order and trespassing. Charges related to the stolen gun are pending against White, and Sturgis also faces numerous traffic charges.
