Assateague walk to benefit premature babies

(May 1, 2009) On Saturday, May 2, the local March of Dimes will hold its 20th annual March for Babies, formerly called Walk- America, at Assateague State Park. Registration begins at 9 a.m. and the 5-mile walk through the state park will kick off at 10 a.m. There will be four checkpoints with refreshments throughout the course. Blues on the Bay to aid Coastal Hospice

Isabella Makowski has been named the Pine'eer Craft Club's "Crafter of the Month" for April. The artist is best known for arrangements she creates using fish scales and natural shells. HANDWRITING CONTEST WINNERS
Claire Porter, a fourth-grader at Ocean City Elementary School, front left, and Abby Yesko, a firstgrader, are statewide winners in the Zaner Bloser Handwriting Contest. With them is fourth-grade teacher Sarah Tilghman, back left, and first-grade teacher Barbara Porter. The students won the competition at their grade level before moving on to the state level. Other OCES grade-level winners were second-grader Grace Beres of Bess Cropper's class and third-grader Samantha Workman of Robyn Rincavage's class. Full Story
BOARD WALKIN' FOR PETS
Danielle Sterner and Tim Houseal stop along the Boardwalk to let Harry Potter, a shelter dog at the Worcester County Humane Society, take a break from the annual Board Walkin' For Pets last Saturday. The 310 registered walkers helped raise more than $32,000 for the no-kill shelter, located off Route 611 in West Ocean City. (At left) Roy Erwin walks 11-year-old Roxy, a shelter dog that was surrendered to the shelter after her owners had her for 10 years. Both Harry Potter and Roxy are available for adoption. As of earlier this week, four shelter dogs that were walked during the event have been adopted. Full Story
