Reverse auction to be held for OC energy contract
(Feb. 6, 2009) Ocean City has concluded negotiations with a company to run an online auction for the city's electricity supply contract. With electricity prices substantially lower than when the city entered into its current supply contract a few years ago, City Engineer Terry McGean suggested bidding it out early to see if a lower price could be obtained. Census Bureau seeks as many as 300 locals for national count
Participants needed for 2010 census; will update addresses, supervise crews
(Feb. 6, 2009) Census organizers are recruiting local workers to help them with the nation's largest head count next year. The census, done once every 10 years, seeks to gain an updated and accurate count of all the people living in the country. City tightens wind energy regs to protect neighbors

Community alert to sound Saturday
(Feb. 6, 2009) Worcester County residents will hear the emergency alert signals from local fire sirens Saturday, Feb. 7. The county has taken this step to provide additional means to warn communities of imminent danger and the need to tune to radio, television or the Internet for information in the event of emergencies. Pa. high school athlete pleads guilty to Senior Week stabbing
(Feb. 6, 2009) Omilthong Milfort, 19, should be a senior at Blue Streaks High School in Lancaster, Pa., this year, but instead he sits in the Worcester County jail. He had been on the high school's boys basketball team, but now he awaits sentencing for an assault and a sexual offense he committed last summer when he was in Ocean City for Senior Week. Full Story
Five charged in multi-state drug distribution ring
Ocean City narcotics unit wraps up 15-month probe with 'ring leader' arrest
(Feb. 6, 2009) The Ocean City Police Department said it has cracked a regional drug distribution ring that stretched into Maryland, Delaware and New Jersey. An OCPD narcotics unit 15-month investigation ended in the fall with the arrest of 45-year-old Joseph Bimonte of Long Branch, N.J., the alleged leader of the ring following his indictment on federal charges. Maryland tops the nation in AP achievement, participation
(Feb. 6, 2009) Maryland education gained its second No. 1 national ranking in as many months this week when the College Board released its annual report on the rigorous Advanced Placement (AP) program. Proposed Maryland law would turn over unused gift cards to state
(Feb. 6, 2009) A recently proposed bill seeks to create a new revenue stream for the state — unused money from gift certificates, gift cards and even prepaid calling cards. HB 126 would classify any gift card, prepaid credit card, gift certificate or prepaid calling card to be abandoned property if it is not redeemed in full four years after it was issued. Full Story
