Mayor Thomas A. Cardinale
BERLIN - Mayor Thomas A. Cardinale, 69, mayor of Berlin, died Saturday May 3, 2008, at Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin. Born in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Anthony and Theresa Yannel Cardinale.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Kay Maisel Harrison Cardinale. He is also survived by his daughter, Christina Arnold, and her husband, Michael, of Parkton and step-children Howard Harrison and his wife, Ellen, of Ellicott City, Kelly Booth of Glen Burnie, Cindy Hare and her husband, Ed, of Crofton, Stacey Simpson and her husband, Matt, of Newark, and Kelly Miller and her husband, Mark, of Millington. There are 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are his brothers, Pasquale Cardinale of Kingsville, Joseph Cardinale of Timonium, and John Cardinale and his wife, Jackie, of Bellcamp; and his sisters and their husbands, Minnie and Bill Thornton of Fallston, Margaret and Paco Ruiz of San Antonio, and Theresa Dragunas of Jarrettsville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Al Cardinale, Dino Cardinale and Vince Cardinale, and a sister, Liz Cardinale.
He was a graduate of the University of Maryland, where he received his teaching degree. Mr. Cardinale had been a graphic arts teacher and later worked in the printing industry, home improvement industry and historic preservation.
He was a member of the P.O.P., Preserve our Past, Calvin B. Taylor Museum Heritage Foundation, Berlin Lions Club, the Print of Industry of Maryland and St. John Neumann Catholic Church. He was elected mayor of Berlin in 2004.
A Mass of Christian burial was held Wednesday, May 7, at St. John Neumann Catholic Church on Beauchamp Road near Ocean Pines. The Rev. Thomas Protack was the celebrant. Interment was in Sunset Memorial Park near Berlin.

Cecilia Dea Parker
BERLIN - Cecilia Dea Parker, 56, of Berlin and formerly of Locust Point in Baltimore, died Monday, April 21, at home.
Born in Baltimore, she was the daughter of Bernard C. and Cecilia T. Lukiewski. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mitchell L. Parker in 1991.
Dea, as she was known to her family and friends, worked at several area businesses including, most recently, Frontier Town Campground. She enjoyed traveling and going to the beach, but her favorite pastime was spending time with family and friends. She was also well known for her kindness to animals.
She is survived by her parents, Bernard C. and Cecilia T. Lukiewski; her brothers, Bernard S. Lukiewski, Stephen Lukiewski and his wife, Anne; sister-in-law Deborah Lukiewski; two nephews, Stephen and Jordan Lukiewski; and two nieces, Christina Lukiewski and Tammy Kessler. She is also survived by many other loving relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held at noon on Monday, May 12, at Saint Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Ocean City. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in her name to the Worcester County Humane Society, P.O. Box 48, Berlin, Md. 21811.

Jeffrey James Jennings
BALTIMORE - Jeffrey James Jennings, 27, passed away Thursday, May 1, 2008, at the University of Maryland Medical Center after a brief illness.
A fisherman, animal lover and environmentalist, he was a lifetime resident of Ocean City and a 1999 graduate of Stephen Decatur High School.
He is survived by his mother, Margaret Jennings of Berlin, his aunt, Mary Moulton of Cockeysville, family friend Dale LaCurts and many other family and friends. A brother, Richard Jennings, predeceased him in 2001.
Mr. Jennings won many awards and trophies for his angling prowess and was an environmentalist who participated in bay conservation efforts. He also was a true animal lover who raised prized English bulldogs Bubba, Bertha, Bonnie, Brittney and Hannah.
He worked for several years at the Clarion Hotel and other Ocean City establishments as a sous chef. He enjoyed cooking and creating new recipes. When he was not cooking, he enjoyed fishing on the Route 50 bridge (often fishing with his mother) and on the rocks at the inlet. He also worked on some of the Ocean City head boats.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 1, at the Burbage Funeral Home in Berlin. Contributions in Mr. Jennings' memory may be made to the Worcester County Humane Society.

William G. Chrmak
OCEAN PINES - William G. Charmak, 69, died Friday, May 2, 2008, at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury. Born in New York City, he was the son of the late Henry Charmak and Catherine Halvisakis Charmak.
Mr. Charmak was a retired police officer from Pelham Manor, N.Y., and was a New York state trooper. He owned and operated a pest control business in West Chester County, N.Y., for 30 years. Mr. Charmak was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Ocean City, was an antique car enthusiast, an avid fisherman, and he loved all kinds of sports.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Charmak of Ocean Pines; one son, Dr. William Charmak, of Maryland; one daughter, Karen A. Zaslow, and husband, Lawrence, of Chappaqua, N.Y.; one brother, Thomas DiPietro of San Diego; one sister, Ann Charmak, of Rye, N.Y.; an one grandson, Noah Zaslow. A memorial service will be held at a later date at First Presbyterian Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Coastal Hospice, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, Md. 21802. Arrangements are being handled by Burbage Funeral Home in Berlin.

James Joseph Kelly
BISHOPVILLE - James Joseph Kelly, 78, of Bishopville died Saturday, May 3, 2008.
He was the beloved husband of the late Dorothy J. Kelly and the devoted father of Patsy K. Miller and her husband, Dan, Michele Kelly and Dori Kelly. He was also the adored grandfather of Emily Kelly-Padden, Matthew Miller and his wife, Tori, and Andrew Miller.
He is also survived by sisters Joan Kenny and Clare Gay, and a sister-in-law, Marian Kelly. He was preceded in death by brothers John and Paul Kelly and sister Anne Kelleher.
Mr. Kelly was a member of the Ocean City Senior Bowling League. He was a self-employed auto mechanic for 40-plus years. After retirement, he was a train conductor in Ocean City.
Services were held Thursday, May 8, at the Burbage Funeral Home in Berlin. Interment will be private.

George A. Enuton
OCEAN CITY - George A. Enuton, 72, died Monday, May 5, 2008, at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury.
Born in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late Ignacio Enutan and Betty Alpert Enutan.
He is survived by his fiancée, Geraldine Franklin; a son, George A. Enuton Jr. and his wife, Jill, of Kona, Hawaii; a daughter, Robin Rothschild of Chincoteague, Va.; a brother, Manuel Enuton and his wife, Cathleen, of St. Augustine, Fla.; two stepchildren, Michael Manimbo and Michael Lagonera; and five grandchildren.
Mr. Enuton worked for the Federal Communication Commission and retired in 1989, after 30 years of service. His lifelong passion was singing. He sang at various clubs in Ocean City and Berlin and was known by many as “Hawaiian George.” Mr. Enuton loved tennis.
A funeral service was held Wednesday, May 7, at Burbage Funeral Home in Berlin. Interment was at Fort Lincoln Cemetery in Brentwood. Donations may be made to Coastal Hospice, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, Md. 21802.

Walter H. Bunting
BISHOPVILLE — Walter H. Bunting, 86, died Tuesday, April 22, 2008, at Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin.
He is survived by his wife, Eva N. Bunting of Bishopville, and a half-sister, Vera Hoffman of Philadelphia. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Lana Rae Bunting in 1998.
Born in Bishopville, Mr. Bunting was a farmer who owned and operated Bunting & Bertrand in Frankford, Del., for 38 years. He was a member of Zion United Methodist Church in Bishopville and a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII.
A memorial service was held Saturday, April 26, at Hastings Funeral Home in Selbyville, Del. The Rev. Dean Perdue officiated. Donations may be made to Zion United Methodist Church, c/o Sandra Venable, 11213 Beverly St., Bishopville, Md. 21813.

Julius J. Zdebski
OCEAN PINES — Julius J. Zdebski, 91, of Ocean Pines died Tuesday, April 22, 2008, at Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin.
Following cremation, a private family service will be held in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
Arrangements are being handled by Bounds Funeral Home in Salisbury.

Gerasimos D. Moutzalias
OCEAN VIEW, Del. — Gerasimos D. Moutzalias of Ocean View, Del., and formerly of Silver Spring, Md., passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at the Beebe Medical Center in Lewes, Del. He was 93.
Also known as “Jerry” and “Papou,” Mr. Moutzalias was born in Kalamos, Greece, on March 15, 1915, to the late Demetruis and Anna (Vlasopoulos) Moutzalias. He was a retired restaurant operator and a longtime member of the parish council at St. George’s Greek Orthodox Church in Ocean City. Mr. Moutzalias was family oriented and loved being around his friends and family. He also enjoyed cooking and fishing.
Mr. Moutzalias is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Mary Moutzalias; a son, James Moutzalias and his wife, Lynn Patterson; a daughter, Anna Meiklejohn and her husband, Gary; six grandchildren, Marianne Moutzalias, Michael Moutzalias and his wife, Jen, Christina Meiklejohn, James Meiklejohn, Jonathan Meiklejohn and his wife, Shelby and Jerry Meiklejohn; three great-grandchildren, Stephanie Miller, Van Meiklejohn and Demetreus Moutzalias; three brothers, Gregory Mountzalia and his wife, Afendra, George Moutzalias and his wife, Hannah and Socretes Moutzalias and his wife, Alexandria; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
A funeral service was held Tuesday, April 29, at St. George Orthodox Church. Interment was in Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Dagsboro, Del. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Gerasimos’ name to St. George Orthodox Church, 8805 Coastal Highway, Ocean City, Md. 21842.

Edna M. Reed
BERLIN — Edna May Reed, 93, died Saturday, April 26, 2008, at Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin. Born in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Harvey T. Massey Sr. and Annie L. Bangs Massey. She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. William McKinley Reed, sister Lillian Dean and brother Harvey T. Massey Jr. She is survived by a foster son, Joseph Bernier of Eastland, Texas, and foster daughter, Doris Whampler of Chesterfield, Va. There are three foster grandchildren and five foster great-grandchildren. Also surviving are nephews Bob Dean Jr., Todd Massey, Paul Massey, David Massey and Tommy Thompson; nieces Sharon Jirsa, Faith Lowry and Ruth Douglas; a sister-in-law, Val Massey and her children Richard, Donna and Peggy; devoted friend Faye Curtis and her husband, Jim of Berlin; and best friend Rose Venable of Berlin.
Mrs. Reed had been a seamstress and piano teacher for more than 35 years. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Berlin and the Baptist Women’s Association, and she was a church pianist and Sunday School teacher for more than 28 years. She had been a volunteer at Peninsula Regional Hospital for more than 23 years and an ardent blood donor. She and her late husband had been house parents at the Wicomico Childrens Home.
A funeral service was held Thursday, May 1, at Faith Baptist Church. The Rev. John Abent officiated. Interment was in Riverside Cemetery in Libertytown. Donations may be made to Faith Baptist Church Memorial Fund, 519 S. Main St., Berlin, Md. 21811. Arrangements are being handled by the Burbage Funeral Home in Berlin.
